There has been an large amount of interest in the novel transparent well housed at the St Lucia campus, with the team at the UQ Centre for Coal Seam Gas giving a steady stream of tours of the technology to politicians, researchers, industry, farmers and other stakeholders.
The University of Queensland’s Professor Andrew Garnett spent time in Canberra in July, briefing a broad range of politicians from all sides of politics on the importance of gas in the energy mix and how the current policy void and legislative settings are counter to the government’s objective of increasing supply.
The latest results from two multi-year studies into what happens when gas comes to town points to the beginnings of a much awaited stabilisation phase and slowly improving levels of trust in the CSG industry.
