The UQ Centre for Natural Gas has been awarded new funding to develop and integrate a range of advanced techniques to deliver continued improvements to subsurface, geological modelling that can be used by industry and government for groundwater and the extraction of the State’s gas resources.

A UQ Centre for Natural Gas researcher, Dr Kathy Witt, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship to look at how communities adapt, manage the downside and maximise the benefits when a new large-scale energy project is developed in their backyard.

The UQ Centre for Natural Gas took a lead role at the recent Queensland Exploration Council Technical Forum held in Brisbane on 19 February 2020. This popular and well regarded forum provides a platform for the sharing of the latest information and technology in the exploration field, featuring a wide selection of highly regarded exploration industry experts.

UQ researchers have led a project to deliver a compendium of the latest research and knowledge on the Great Artesian Basins. The project was a large-scale collaborative initiative, sourcing experts from across Australia to bring together the latest understanding of the vital Australian water resource

Centre Director, Professor Andrew Garnett, was recently invited to share his energy expertise on a panel delving into the innovative thinking needed to address Australia's energy predicament.

UQ has made inroads into understanding and managing large and complex groundwater systems, announcing the release of a compendium of the latest, peer-reviewed research on the Great Artesian Basin at key industry event, the Australasian Groundwater Conference, in November.

The latest science and technology applied to exploration and development of unconventional resources was profiled at the global premier conference for the sector, which this year was hosted in Brisbane 18-19 November.

Energy industry leaders, including Energy Security Board Chair Dr Kerry Schott and UQ Centre for Natural Gas, Professor Andrew Garnett, came together to discuss the role Australian natural gas may need to play in the transition to a clean energy future.

UQ Centre for Natural Gas Chair, Professor Raymond Johnson Jr, gave a well-received update on hydraulic fracturing at the 24 October, monthly luncheon of the Brisbane section of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA).
