Dr Afsal Najeeb
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Biography
Dr Afsal Najeeb is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the UQ Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre, specialising in modelling the National Electricity Market (NEM) and analysing the economics of the energy transition.
His research integrates advanced energy system modelling with economic analysis to evaluate the impacts of emerging energy policies, market reforms, and technological change. He has extensive experience applying economic methods to energy policy questions, conducting large‑scale data analytics, and developing model‑based insights that support decision‑making in Australia’s evolving energy landscape. Dr Najeeb’s work contributes to fundamental economic and energy‑system research, helping to understand pathways for a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy transition.
He holds a PhD from Monash University and a Master’s degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
