The energy conference Australia needs to have.
NEMDEV 2025 aims to help create a shared vision for Australia's energy future by inviting experts from the energy sector to contribute to an open conversation on the policies, regulations, markets, models and assumptions at the core of the National Electricity Market.
Conference summary
At the core of the Conference is a single principle - an open, respectful conversation that considers all technologies, resources and pathways is ultimately good for Australia.
To deliver on that principle, the Conference aims to engage with a broad range of experts from all parts of the energy sector. There will be a focus on leadership and the ‘business of the transition’ on Day 1, and a greater focus on policy and planning on Day 2; however, as a truly interdisciplinary and whole-of-economy challenge, the days and sessions will demonstrate the multitude of interdependencies.
The Conference Chairs are Professor David Close and Professor Magnus Söderberg , who lead The University of Queensland’s (UQ) Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre and Griffith University’s Centre for Applied Energy Economics and Policy Research (CAEEPR) respectively. The chairs are supported by an experienced and well-rounded Advisory Board of Professor Paul Simshauser (AMO), Associate Professor Tim Nelson, and Katie-Anne Mulder.

Conference hosts
UQ Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre
The UQ Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre undertakes independent research to address the complexities and challenges of the energy transition in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. The Centre’s research and engagement aims to support the development of knowledge, policies and practices that will ensure an equitable energy transition and the responsible development of energy resource projects.
Centre for Applied Energy Economics and Policy Research (CAEEPR)
CAEEPR is a collaborative partnership between Griffith Business School and key participants in Australia’s National Electricity Market. CAEEPR supports the transition to a low-carbon energy supply by providing expert analysis, insights, advice and capability-building. The centre uses a national electricity market model to develop and analyse different scenarios to assess different policy positions for generator dispatch and transmission efficiency.
